Orlando Pirates star makes claim after draw with Durban City: ‘They were doing it the whole week!’

Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng has claimed that Durban City must have practised their strategy to defend against Bucs for the entire game.

Bucs hosted the Citizens on Saturday at the Orlando Amstel Arena, hoping to claim maximum points and clinch the Premier Soccer League title for the first time since the 2011/12 campaign. However, the game ended 0-0 with the Sea Robbers failing to put the ball in the back of the net.

It left the Soweto giants on 66 points from 29 matches, two less than the defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, who have already completed their rounds. It means Bucs have no option but to beat relegation-threatened Bucs away on Saturday to be coronated.

Mofokeng has hit at Durban City, claiming they practised how to lay a low block against Pirates, and their plan worked.

“It was very difficult from the very beginning to the end, they came to defend and they did it very well, I think they were doing it the whole week,”  Mofokeng stated.

“We also tried to create chances, we didn’t convert them. We could have just converted our chances, so ja we could be having a different conversation here,” said the youngster.

“But it’s what we have to expect in every game because we’re doing good, obviously people will come and want to take us out of the game. We must just be focused and keep on going and don’t change how we play.

“Obviously it gave us the advantage [TS Galaxy vs Mamelodi Sundowns result], the league is now in our hands, I think we just have to win our last game and then we will have the league,” Mofokeng concluded.
