Pirates part ways with Angola star
Orlando Pirates have officially parted ways with Gilberto after the end of his loan with Petro de Luanda. Sources have now confirmed the player and Pirates have officially parted ways, one season before his contract was due to expire.
The Angola national team winger joined Pirates with much optimism back in 2024 and impressed during their pre-season in Spain but failed to establish himself in the first XI under then-head coach Jose Riveiro.
“Sources have now confirmed the player and Pirates have officially parted ways with the winger, one season before his contract was due to expire,” iDiskiTimes reported.
The 25-year-old who who has been capped 22 times by the senior national team of Angola will now look to reignite his career elsewhere – after being deemed surplus to requirements before his exit at the Buccaneers. Pirates had three foreign players registered in their five quota spots when the season ended, Daniel Msendami (Zimbabwe), Andre de Jong (New Zealand) and Abdoulaye Mariko (Mali).

“The other Mariko, started the season on loan at Chippa United before ending it with ORBIT College, while Karim Kimvuidi spent the campaign with F.C. Ashdod in Israel,” they further added.
Sundowns told to go for Mofokeng!
Former Sundowns midfielder Roger Feutmba believes a player like Relebohile Mofokeng could strengthen the CAF Champions League winners, while urging the club to maintain its winning mentality.
In an exclusive interview, the Cameroonian legend emphasised that Sundowns do not need to look beyond South Africa’s borders for new talent. He singled out Orlando Pirates sensation Relebohile “Rele” Mofokeng as the type of player who could add significant value to the squad.
“There’s always a quality player somewhere. Somebody who can come and add more value to the team. You need to go and look for that special one. If there’s a special player somewhere, two or three special players somewhere, then why not?

“When I say somewhere, I don’t mean out of the country automatically, no. You can have special players here. If someone like Relebohile (Mofokeng) decides to come to Sundowns, I would be happy. For me, he’s one of the very best players in the country today. You don’t necessarily have to go far, like South America or whatever. There are many good players, I believe, in Africa. So, you don’t need to go so far. Even in this country, you can still have somebody who can come and add value,” Feutmba told Soccer Laduma.
