Orlando Pirates News Today: Mofokeng’s transfer value soars, a massive World Cup windfall & more

The latest from Orlando Pirates, including how the 2026 FIFA World Cup is transforming Relebohile Mofokeng’s transfer market value and the eye-catching financial windfall heading to Mayfair through FIFA’s Club Benefits Programme.

Mofokeng’s transfer value soaring at the World Cup

Relebohile Mofokeng’s market value has already received a 20 per cent boost simply for being selected in Bafana Bafana’s World Cup squad, and sources tracking transfer valuations say the number will climb further with every appearance.

The 21-year-old holds a unique distinction at the tournament: he is the youngest player still based at an African club among all of the continent’s World Cup representatives, a factor that makes him a priority target for agents seeking a favourable transfer fee.

Should Mofokeng perform well in South Africa’s remaining group-stage fixture, analysts project his fee could reach approximately USD5 million (roughly R82 million) through the July and August transfer window.

A strong run for Bafana Bafana into the knockout stages would push that valuation even higher, with the Pirates star’s every appearance on football’s biggest stage being watched closely by clubs across the United States, the Middle East, Europe, and the United Kingdom.

Orlando Pirates stand to pocket a minimum of R51.2 million through FIFA’s Club Benefits Programme at the 2026 World Cup, with eight first-team players named in Hugo Broos’ final 26-man Bafana Bafana squad.

FIFA has set aside USD 355 million (approximately R5.8 billion) from the total Club Benefits pool for distribution to clubs worldwide, with payments calculated on a per-player, per-match basis from the start of the official preparation period.

At the daily rate of approximately USD12,000 to USD15,000 per player, a single Pirates representative could generate roughly R6.5 million for the club even if South Africa exits in the group stage.

As per KickOff, Tapelo Xoki, who has not made an official appearance for Pirates in over a year, will also earn the club part of the money as he was named on the bench for two World Cup qualifying matches against Benin and Rwanda back in November 2023.
