Orlando Pirates News Today: We want Rele abroad! Transfer updates & more

The latest from Orlando Pirates, in the last 24 hours including where Bucs need to strengthen, the Sea Robbers urged to let Relebohile Mofokeng go and more.

Pirates lauded for signings but…

Former Orlando Pirates striker Andries Sebola has been impressed with the Buccaneers’ signings so far, but claims they still need to improve in one area.

The Soweto giants have already confirmed the arrivals of Mthetheleli Mthiyane, Sbangani Zulu, Bohale Ngwato and Ghampani Lungu.

The reigning Betway Premiership champions are reportedly closing in some more reinforcements, however Sebola wants the club to bolster their striking line.

“I’ve been very impressed by that boy. Out of all the signings so far, he excites me more. I’ve been reading that Sundowns was interested in him, and that tells you everything you need to know about the boy. He’s going to add value at Pirates,” he told Soccer Laduma.

“Sipho Mbule is gone, and Patrick Maswanganyi’s form can drop sometimes, so you need someone like Ndlovu there. He’s exciting. I think they are reinforcing a lot of positions because they want to do well both in the CAF Champions League and the domestic league.

“But I think they also need two good strikers who can score double digits. You can’t afford to have a situation where your top scorers are only wingers or playmakers, as we saw with Relebohile (Mofokeng) and Oswin (Appollis).

“You need strikers who can score every game. I think once they do that, Pirates are going to have another fantastic season,” he concluded.

We wan’t Mofokeng playing abroad, Pirates told

Orlando Pirates forward Relebohile Mofokeng’s mother, Naomi, has opened up on talks for his son to ply his trade overseas.

Before the start of the 2025/26 season, there was intense speculation that Mofokeng was on the brink of moving abroad, with a number of teams reported to have shown interest.

“To tell you the truth, I expected everything that is coming his way, because when I pray, I pray for him more than myself and he deserves everything that is happening in his life. He has always liked football, he could go all day long, not even eating, I would go out at night, wondering, looking for him,” Naomi Mofokeng said on Radio 2000’s Game On.

“He does not go out that much, he’s not an outgoing person. So most of the time, it’s family time, so that is what keeps him grounded. We also have a foundation for him, so he doesn’t have time to do funny things, because he’s always here with us,” Mofokeng said.

“Hopefully, not only me, even you yourself, you are hoping for him to go overseas, that’s our dream and that’s our hope and that’s what we’re praying for, because you can’t just say I want to play for Orlando Pirates, this is what I wanted to play, everyone wants to see themselves playing abroad. It’s not only my prayers, many people are praying that this season he must go,” Naomi Mofokeng concluded.
