Orlando Pirates boss slams ‘karate-playing’ Chiefs
Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has hit out at Kaizer Chiefs for what he terms a ‘karate-like’ approach during their 1-1 draw in the Soweto Derby on Sunday.
Pirates players were on the receiving end of some rough treatment from a very physical Chiefs with Tshepang Moremi and Relebohile Mofokeng coming off worse and Ouaddou feels his team was not protected enough.
“We must protect the players who are willing to play football. What I have seen today, I have seen. I don’t know if I have to say I have seen a football game or karate. It was not really a football game,” he said after the match.
“Everybody is willing to play some nice football but there are some people that have to protect the players. When I saw that our three ball players, Mofokeng, [Oswin] Appollis, Moremi were targeted not to take the ball but to break the legs of players is something I cannot accept in football.”
Ouaddou concedes risky approach was going to be costly

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou accepts that he was not surprised when his team conceded on the counterattack because the approach of pushing many numbers forward has its risks.
Pirates conceded on the break when Wandile Duba got in behind their defence before setting up Pule Mmodi as they drew 1-1 with Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby on Sunday.
“I think we created the second half unfortunately we didn’t score, but on the other hand we conceded transition but let’s say when you are chasing and want to win, you take three points it’s normal that you leave some space,” he said as per KickOff.
“They caught us in the transition after the goal, they did everything to come back to equalise, we did everything to win that game unfortunately we didn’t manage so a bit disappointing but we have to continue the games to play and play until the end.”
Were the Buccaneers robbed in the Soweto Derby?
Orlando Pirates feel they should have had an early goal when Oswin Appollis’ strike was ruled out for offside against Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby on Sunday.
Appollis made a quick run into the box and received a long ball from Thalenthe Mbatha, firing home first time in the 19th minute, but he was flagged offside, something coach Abdeslam Ouaddou does not agree with.
“I think the goal of Appollis is definitely onside and I never speak about the referees. I don’t like that because they are part of the game and helping us, helping football but today I think this is a goal for Orlando Pirates,” said the Pirates coach.
