Latest Orlando Pirates news in the last 24 hours, including reports that a midfielder is set for a Durban City move, Mbekezeli Mbokazi tipped to leave Chicago Fire, Relebohile Mofokeng’s move lauded, and more.

Why ex-Pirates man Mbokazi is destined for greatness

Bafana Bafana defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi will not stay too long at his current club Chicago Fire following his brilliant performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Khanye’s comments come on the back on South Africa’s elimination from the global showpiece co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico.

“Mbekezeli Mbokazi, they’ll be lucky if the boy stays at Chicago,” Khanye told iDiski Times.

“Maybe he can stay for another season but I’m sure the boy has made a name for himself. The boy helped us a lot we could have lost this game [against Canada] by two or three goals.

“There’s a ball he cleared off the goal line in the second half. If you check how we covers he’s like a wiper. The way he reads the game and usually players who can do this are midfielders, clever, talented players so skilful.

“And the boy is so gifted that at his age, his anticipation, how he reads the game is so clever, very strong. He wins his battles, aerial balls too, a very clever player. He also covered [Ime] Okon a lot.”

Rasebotja on his way out?

Siwelele FC have set their sights on 25-year-old Orlando Pirates midfielder Selaelo Rasebotja.

According to iDiski Times, the Bloemfontein-based outfit have since opened talks with Pirates for a possible move for the midfielder.

Rasebotja, 25, is currently left with a year in his contract and Siwelele are targeting to either get him on loan or snap him up permanently.

The Mokopane-born midfielder played just over 150 minutes in his first season at Pirates, in the following season he didn’t play a part as he was on the sidelines due to an injury.

After Gape Moralo left Siwelele on a free transfer to join AmaZulu FC, Lehlohonolo Seema has identified Rasebotja as his perfect fit in that midfield ahead of the new season.

With Pirates having added more midfield players like Mthetheleli Mthiyane, the competition will be difficult for the former SuperSport United midfielder.

Williams on Rele’s move: ‘We need more…’

Not so long ago, Ronwen Williams signalled for Hugo Broos to give Relebohile Mofokeng his Bafana Bafana debut in the final minutes of a clash against and, now, the national team captain could not be prouder of the youngster’s move abroad.

“For Rele, it’s amazing. We are all happy, we are proud. We will continue supporting him and, like the coach has mentioned so many times, we need more exports and players playing at the biggest level and that will help us.

“That can only benefit us as a team,” Williams told media.
