Orlando Pirates have been handed a major transfer boost in their pursuit of Polokwane City right-back Thabang Matuludi following Mamelodi Sundowns’ capture of Deano van Rooyen.

Sundowns were reported last week to have submitted an offer for Matuludi, which increased pressure on other suitors like Pirates, but with the arrival of Van Rooyen at Chloorkop, the path is now clear.

Pirates already have space for a right-back after releasing Van Rooyen and could be encouraged to move for Matuludi now that there is no competition.

Matuludi has been on Pirates’ radar since June but a deal is yet to materialise although Polokwane look to have made up their minds to sell him given they are yet to field him this season.

Meanwhile, Pirates have etched their name into the history books with a remarkable and likely unrepeatable feat in the Betway Premiership.

The reigning champions have recorded an extraordinary run of results, securing four consecutive domestic victories with progressively larger margins. The sequence began with a 1-0 MTN8 win over Sekhukhune United, followed by a 2-0 league victory against the same opponent.

They then beat Sekhukhune again, this time 3-0 in the second leg of the MTN8 semi-final, before capping the run with a dominant 4-0 thrashing of Kruger United.

Orlando Pirates are the first team in PSL history to win 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 4-0 in successive games.

They were also the first team in PSL history to win 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 successively back in February 2021.

This achievement marks the first time in Premier Soccer League (PSL) history that a team has won successive matches with 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, and 4-0 scorelines. Interestingly, Pirates also set the previous record in February 2021 when they became the first PSL side to win three consecutive games 1-0, 2-0, and 3-0.

In the absence of injured duo Sihle Nduli and Thalente Mbatha, midfielders Cemran Dansin, Thapelo Mokobodi, Simphiwe Selepe, and Mthetheleli Mthiyane have been instrumental in the team’s recent success.
