Misfiring Orlando Pirates star told to emulate Kaizer Chiefs striker Silva

Orlando Pirates striker Yanela Mbuthuma has been told to emulate Flavio Silva of Kaizer Chiefs if he is to succeed in front of the goal.

The former Richards Bay striker has struggled to find the back of the net in recent outings. As a matter of fact, the last time he scored for Ezimnyama was way back in mid-February in the Soweto giants’ 3-0 win over Marumo Gallants to make it four goals in PSL and seven across all competitions.

However, coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has stuck to the striker despite the criticism from both the fans and the stakeholders who argue that Evidence Makgopa deserves a chance as well.

Bucs legend Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi, who is the all-time leading goal scorer for the Buccaneers, has now advised Mbuthuma on how to increase his chances of scoring in matches.

“I like what coach Ouaddou did, to say ‘I cannot keep on changing the striking force’, to stick with Mbuthuma, here’s the thing, that’s my opinion, Mbuthuma is key in the final third, remember all these teams are playing with four defenders,” Vilakazi told Omniaudioafrica YouTube Channel.

“One needs to pick and one has to cover and there’s a space and it allows the wingers to come into the pockets. So he creates spaces for his teammates to go in and score. The reason why Mbuthuma plays is because he’s the one making the team create chances.

“You look at his runs into the box, two centre-backs follow him, then the midfielders come into the spaces, that’s where they get the goals.

“The only [downside] I would say is that sometimes he needs to be greedy when he gets into that box, sometimes force your way, the way Silva [Kaizer Chiefs striker] did [against Magesi], force your way to turn and take a shot, (otherwise) there’s nothing else,” Tso concluded
