Orlando Pirates Transfers: Bucs advised to sign ‘special’ Stellies star

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has advised Orlando Pirates to sign Stellenbosch FC midfielder Jayden Adams to bolster their side.

Khanye feels central midfield is an area that Pirates still need to strengthen if they have to go far in the CAF Champions League now that they appear to be on their way to the knockout round.

Pirates are top of their group on eight points from four games, one more than holders Al Ahly and two better than CR Belouizdad, and a win against the Algerian club in their next match on January 12 will seal their place in the next round.

Adams just ‘like Iniesta & Xavi’

However, Khanye is of the opinion that the options they have in midfield are not enough for a Champions League title challenge given the competition will get stronger as they progress.

“Jayden Adams is very special like Andre Iniesta and Xavi both of them because they are more or less the same kind of player,” Khanye told iDiski TV.

“He can play, he can defend, he’s energetic, he knows football and he has awareness in passing.

“Pirates must get him. I know people are taking this lightly but it was evident in the game. I know they were playing weaker opposition but going forward into the crucial knockout matches, they need a player like that.”

Should Pirates sign a midfielder?

Pirates had Makhehlene Makhaula and Kabelo Dlamini in central midfield while Patrick Maswanganyi played ahead of them in their 2-0 victory over Stade d’Abidjan in the Champions League last weekend.

Their other options in the middle of the park are Thalenthe Mbatha, Miguel Timm, Phillip Ndlondlo and Selaelo Rasebotja.

Khanye might not get his wish this month as Pirates have not been linked with any midfielders, having been reported to be looking for full-backs and wingers in the January transfer window.
