Bafana Bafana winger Percy Tau has been on the market for a couple of months since his exit from the Qatari outfit Qatar SC.
The 31-year-old had shown interest in the Premier Soccer League, where he was ready to sign for any team with a genuine interest in his services. The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly star had been linked to the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, but none of the deals materialized.
Egyptian heavyweights Zamalek were also reportedly interested in the versatile attacker with massive global experience, having played in several leagues across the world. However, the attacker has made a surprising move to Asia.
Tau will play in the Vietnamese top-tier alongside the Glamour Boys graduate, midfielder Njabulo Blom
New club for Tau revealed
Tau will be playing for the Vietnamese League 1 side, Nam Dinh FC, who have confirmed his arrival.
“Welcome ‘South African star’ Percy Muzi Tau to join South Dinh Blue Steel. Nam Dinh Blue Steel Club would like to introduce the new player of the team – Percy Muzi Tau, the star from the South African team,” the club said in a statement.
“Nam Dinh Blue Steel pursues the fiery attack gameplay. And Percy Tau’s presence promises to bring more explosive goalscoring moments for the team.”
It is interesting to see whether coach Hugo Broos will consider Tau for Bafana Bafana assignments in the future. South Africa resumes their 2026 FIFA Club World Cup in September before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, to be played in Morocco from December.
