Percy Tau: Soweto giants ‘submit’ offer for Bafana Bafana forward

Published on by Joel Oliver

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly submitted an offer to Al Ahly for Bafana Bafana winger Percy Tau.

Tau’s future is up in the air after the club tried several times to get him out of the club without success in the off-season transfer window.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward is in the final months of his deal with the Egyptian giants and coach Marcel Koller has not hidden his desire to offload him.

However, Al Ahly and Tau are yet to agree on the best way to part ways after the club’s offer to pay him half of his wages and terminate his contract was rejected by the player who has demanded the full amount.

Will Chiefs manage to lure Tau?

The club is left with a player they do not want but whom they must keep paying until his deal expires in June 2025 but it appears there could be a way out for the Cairo Red Devils.

As per Kooora, Chiefs have made an offer for Tau with a view to returning him to South Africa in the January transfer window in what would be a major boost for coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Chiefs are in the market for attacking reinforcements and Tau would fit into what they are looking for after Nabi made it clear he would only sign quality players who will change the fortunes of the club.

Amakhosi face competition from Qatar

However, Amakhosi face competition from an unnamed Qatari side who are also interested in Tau.

It might come down to which club offers Al Ahly the better deal or which contract offer appeals to Tau as he is on $1.2 million per year at Al Ahly and would be looking for something close to that to leave now, otherwise he might opt to stay on until the end of the season, and then choose from the multiple offers that will be available.

Tau has made 12 appearances across all competitions for Al Ahly this season, scoring three goals while providing an assist.
