Petersen’s weakness exposed! Chiefs urged to sign good goalkeeper

Kaizer Chiefs have been urged to consider strengthening their goalkeeping department as son as possible.

The Glamour Boys have had trouble replacing South Africa legend Itumeleng Khune who left two seasons ago, after serving the Soweto giants for 25 years. Bruce Bvuma, Fiacre Ntwari and Brandon Petersen have struggled to fit into the shoes left by the now 38-year-old.

However, since late last season, Petersen has been the main man between the goalpost, inspiring the club to the Nedbank Cup last season, and the recent relatively good run across all competitions.

Thabang Rooi, who served Chiefs as a defender, has urged the club to act fast and re-new the contract of Petersen who is into his final six months. He has to work on his ball distribution, especially with his legs.

Re-new Petersen’s contract, but…

“At the moment, he is the No. 1 choice goalkeeper, so I think they must extend his stay,” Rooi said in his interview with Soccer Laduma.

“Now the only thing he needs to do is to improve his footwork so he can help his defence on playing from the back.

The former defender has further urged the Glamour Boys to consider selling either Bruce Bvuma, whose contract is almost ending, or Fiacre Ntwari who has so far failed to deliver as expected.

“I think they need to sign a good keeper and release one of them,” Rooi concluded.

Kaizer Chiefs have started the season well, and are hoping to challenge for the Premier Soccer League as well as defend their Nedbank Cup title. Amakhosi are also in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
