Orlando Pirates ‘close to beating’ Kaizer Chiefs to key transfer target

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly close to losing out on Polokwane City winger Oswin Appollis to Orlando Pirates.

Appollis has been heavily linked to Chiefs since the end of last season but a deal did not materialise while Tunisian giants Esperance were also credited with an interest before they settled on Elias Mokwana from Sekhukhune United.

It was believed that the Glomour Boys were still interested in going back in for Appollis in the January transfer window, having seen their offer rejected in the off-season, but it appears they might be too late.

As per reports, Pirates have moved ahead of the queue and are ‘close’ to securing a deal for the Bafana Bafana winger, in what could be a blow to Chiefs’ transfer aspirations.

Will Pirates beat Chiefs to Appollis’ signature?

The reports also claim that Pirates will sign both Appollis and his Polokwane City team-mate Thabang Matuludi, who has kept putting in impressive performances for Rise and Shine.

Both players have been instrumental in Polokwane’s great start to the season that sees them occupying third place on the PSL table and the club would not want to lose them midway through the season.

For Chiefs, missing out on Appollis would be a significant blow to coach Nasreddine Nabi whose team is crying out for reinforcements in attack as they keep struggling to take their chances.

Appollis was one of the key players for Bafana Bafana as he scored two goals and provided three assists in their six 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers although he is yet to translate the good form at club level where he has one goal in 12 matches across all competitions.
