Pirates coach Riveiro – ‘We must make Chiefs look bad’

Published on by

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has shared insights into the Buccaneers' strategy for the upcoming Nedbank Cup final against Kaizer Chiefs

The Soweto rivals will contest the trophy at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday, May 10th, in their first cup final showdown since the 2014 MTN8 final at the same venue, won 1-0 by Chiefs in the 2014/15 season.

Pirates head into the final having recently secured a league double over Amakhosi, including a 1-0 win in their last Betway Premiership fixture.

Coach Riveiro stated that despite the derby's significance, their approach will mirror that of other successful finals under his tenure since 2022.

He highlighted their intention to try and make Chiefs “look bad” on the day as they want to come out victorious, ending the season with FA Cup glory.

RIVEIRO ON STRATEGY TO BEAT CHIEFS IN NEDBANK CUP FINAL

“It’s a pleasure and honour to be, one more time, in the final representing Orlando Pirates,” said Riveiro.

“It’s what we have been looking since day one since we started together. We worked hard enough to find ourselves regularly almost in each and every final since we started.

“It’s something to celebrate one more time. We don’t want to play the occasion, we want to focus on the game plan and focus on the way that we can beat Chiefs and also they can beat us, so we can avoid it.

“We’re going to try to make Chiefs play bad. That’s the intention on the day.

“We’ve done it already several times together and we want to make sure that we are there again.”
