Former Orlando Pirates winger Lebohang Mokoena has named the figure he thinks Orlando Pirates should be demanding from Relebohile Mofokeng’s suitors.
Mofokeng has been the subject of transfer speculation in the last two years and that will not go away again this time after the impressive season he has had that leaves him hot favourite to be crowned PSL Player of the Season.
Mofokeng has been reported to be on the radar of a number teams in Europe, and even in the United States, but a deal is yet to materialise but as he leads Pirates’ title push and potentially set to star for Bafana Bafana at the 2026 World Cup, the interest will grow.

The 21-year-old has been recently ranked as the most valuable young African player by Afroscout at $3.6 million (R68.6 million), but Mokoena feels Pirates should be asking for much more for the highly-talented attacker.
What should Pirates be asking for Mofokeng?
“The club is not going to let him go for just a small fee just because he is going overseas. The club is also looking at a return on investment because they put so much in the player,” Mokoena said on SoccerBeat.
“Probably the offers are there but just to see who is going to be the highest bidder for Rele and I am hoping it can be more than R68 million. Maybe R80-90 million there, who knows.
“I am just pushing my luck but I am sure if he has a great tournament, that figure will go up and I cannot wait for the World Cup to get done and start hearing about these offers coming in.”
Rele has become Bucs’ main man
Mokoena is among those who believe Mofokeng is now ripe for a transfer abroad and wants his ex-team to sell him at a premium so that they have enough cash to invest in a squad that can challenge on multiple fronts next season.

“But it is going to bolster and help Pirates because they will still be part of the Champions League and battling it out with Sundowns [in the PSL]. They will be involved in a lot of competitions and will need to beef up the squad,” he added.
Mofokeng has played 121 matches since being promoted to the Pirates senior team in the 2023-24 season, scoring 29 goals and weighing in with 30 assists. After managing 12 goals and 15 assists last season, he is on 11 and eight assists this term as the Buccaneers push for the PSL title in the final four games of the campaign.
