Pitso Mosimane has started shaping his squad at Iranian club Esteghlal after signing Kenyan striker Masoud Juma on a free transfer.
The former Cape Town City striker has found a new home in Iran having been without a club for nearly five months since leaving Saudi side Al-Jabalain in July.
Juma joined Cape Town in 2018 and scored one goal in eight appearances before moving on to the Middle East where he played for clubs in the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Morocco and Saudi Arabia which will perhaps be crucial to his adaptation in Iran.
The striker has signed a short-term deal until June 2025 and he will hope to hit the ground running and impress Mosimane to convince the club to hand him a longer contract.
What does Juma bring to Esteghlal?
“Kenya’s Masoud Juma joins Esteghlal! The striker signs with The Famous Royal Blues for the season, stepping into the ranks of Pitso Mosimane’s squad,” Esteghlal said while announcing the signing on social media.
Mosimane, who joined Esteghlal in October, is trying to shape the squad into his own image in a bid to revive the fortunes of the nine-time Iranian champions, who are currently in ninth place on the 16-team table with 14 points, 10 behind leaders Sepahan.
Juma is a highly experienced striker who started out at Kenyan club Shabana FC but made a name for himself during his one-year stint at Kariobangi Sharks when he scored a league-best 18 goals to win the Golden Boot in 2017-18.
