Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns will play in a packed FNB Stadium during Saturday’s Carling Knockout quarter-final after tickets for the match were sold out.

Tickets for the match had gone past the 55,000 mark on Thursday evening but by Friday morning, the PSL confirmed that the remaining ones had been snapped up, meaning 87,364 fans will witness the glamour tie.

Chiefs host Sundowns for the second time in one month after their league match at the FNB Stadium on September 28, which the Brazilians won 2-1, with claims of poor officiating dominating the contest.

Kaizer Chiefs eyeing revenge against Sundowns

Nasreddine Nabi’s men are therefore looking to get their revenge against Manqoba Mngqithi’s side as they look to end their nine-year trophy drought and they can make a major statement if they triumph.

Sundowns senior coach Steve Komphela had on Thursday anticipated a sold-out stadium, saying the fans will play a major part in the outcome of the match.

“It is going to be packed. That stadium will be yellow and black and blue and you have to perform,” Komphela told the media.

Will a packed FNB play a role in the final result?

“Players get affected by such environments but big players love such environments and the players who get intimidated, the environment swallows them. So, we need to work not just on technical and tactical preparations and all that, but it is going to be more psychological as well.”

Chiefs beat SuperSport United 4-0 in the Carling Knockout Round of 16 while Sundowns eliminated Golden Arrows, who they thrashed 5-0, at the same stage.
