How Sekhukhune bottled Relebohile Mofokeng’s signing to give Orlando Pirates a chance

Sekhukhune United turned down a massive opportunity to sign Relebohile Mofokeng before Orlando Pirates snapped him.

The South Africa international tried with Babina Noko hoping to get a contract and help them in the Premier Soccer League. The now 21-year-old trained with the South African top-tier for weeks, impressing even the scouts and memebers of the club’s technical team.

Despite high expectations of securing a deal with Sekhukhune and realising his dream, Mofokeng had no choice but to leave with his head down, as the decision-makers were not convinced by his physique.

Sekhukhune felt Mofokeng was too small

“Rele trained with Sekhukhune United after being invited for trials. He was still at School of Excellence. He spent some weeks training with the club,” KickOff reported.

“He did well but could not sign. They cited his body structure as the main reason. They felt he was too small.”

“They were surprised when they played against Orlando Pirates in a DDC [DStv Diski Challenge] match. He was in Pirates’ colours and he killed them.”

I heard Mofokeng was here!

Sekhukhune member of technical team Alex Bapela has revealed he heard the versatile attacker tried with Sekhukhune.

“I heard he was here. It was before I arrived. Remember, there was time I was not around the team. When I came back, they told me that he was here,” he confirmed to the publication.
