Thabang Sibanyoni, a striker, has begun training with the newly-promoted Betway Premiership outfit, Durban City FC, following his recent departure from Mamelodi Sundowns.
His exit from “The Brazilians” was publicly confirmed earlier in the week, part of a collective announcement that also included the departures of Sipho Mbule, Lucas Suarez, Sanele Tshabalala, and Sifiso Ngobeni, indicating a significant change in squad composition at his former club.
Sibanyoni is a product of Sundowns' renowned youth development system, having been promoted to the senior team squad at the very beginning of the 2019/20 season.
Despite his promising beginnings, his tenure at the club ultimately concluded without him making a single first-team appearance, a unique footnote in his career.
SIBANYONI’S FUTURE STILL UNCERTAIN
While no official confirmation of a permanent transfer has been made, Sibanyoni has seamlessly joined the Durban-based team's training activities as they meticulously prepare for the rigours of the 2025/26 season under their newly appointed and highly experienced head coach, Gavin Hunt.

His extensive history at Sundowns is largely defined by a series of seven loan spells that saw him play for various clubs across the Motsepe Foundation Championship and the Betway Premiership.
His initial loan, directly after his promotion, was to JDR Stars in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The subsequent season saw him continue his development in the same league, spending the entire campaign with Sekhukhune United, where he was instrumental in their successful promotion to the top flight.
In the 2021/22 season, Sibanyoni enjoyed a brief return to his parent club for six months before another loan move, this time to AmaTuks, mid-season.
Following that, he signed with SuperSport United for the 2022/23 campaign, only to return to AmaTuks for the following season, where he delivered a particularly impressive performance.
Last season was a dual-loan affair for the centre-forward. He started with Richards Bay FC, where he candidly admitted to struggling for consistent game time. However, a timely move in January this year saw him transfer to Magesi FC.
There, under the seasoned guidance of Owen Da Gama, Sibanyoni played an absolutely pivotal role in helping the club avoid relegation, contributing two crucial goals in the 12 appearances he made for “Dikwena tša Meetse,” showcasing his ability to deliver under pressure.
