Premier Soccer League side Kaizer Chiefs are set for pre-season in the Netherlands, that is set for July 3 to 19.
The Glamour Boys resumed their preparations for the 2025/26 season on Friday with most of their last season's players. Left-back Kabelo Nkgwesa was among the players spotted at Naturena as he joined the rest for their pre-season, which points to a possible promotion to the senior team for the highly-rated defender.
Nkgwesa was a key player for the Chiefs Diski Challenge team that won a maiden DDC title last season and was named the most Improved Player as well as the Player of the Season at the club’s awards for their PSL reserve team.
Amakhosi have started early preparations for the new campaign following another poor outing in the Premier Soccer League that saw them finish ninth on the table, just a position higher than the previous edition.
Who will Chiefs play in the Netherlands?
Eredivisie outfit Utrecht have confirmed they will play the Glamour Boys on July 11 as they shape up for the new campaign.
Five-time KNVB Cup finalists Nec Nijmegen FC have revealed they will play Amakhosi a day later.
“NEC will start preparing for the anniversary season in the first week of July with a practice match against the German SF Lotte. Also, just like last year, a training camp will be held abroad. Although not all dates and times are final yet, the club shares the first concept today [June 20],” the club said in a statement.
“NEC will kick off the preparation with the first training session next Wednesday. On Saturday, 5 July at 14:00, the game will be played at Sports Park De Passelegt, in Overasselt. Sportfreunde Lotte, playing at the fourth level of Germany, will be the opponent. Because of the 125th anniversary season, the Nijmegen tricolour will practice against the amateurs of sc NEC on 11 July,” they concluded.
