Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly still finding an agreement over the payment of the severance package to coach Nasreddine Nabi and that is why his departure has not officially been confirmed.
Chiefs confirmed over one week ago that they were in talks with Nabi in regards to a parting of ways over reasons that are yet to be made public but so far, no news has come forth regarding his departure.
Nabi has, however, been absent from the dugout from Chiefs’ last three matches with his assistants Khalil Ben Yousef and Cedric Kaze taking charge of the team but according to SABC, the Tunisian coach has officially not left due to financial reasons.
Why has Nabi not officially left?
“The reason why we haven’t heard or seen any form of communication is that they are locked in discussions between Kaizer Chiefs and Nasredine Nabi around potential settlement there because the coach still had a one-year contract with an option to renew,” SABC journalist Mazola Molefe said on Soccer Zone.
“So, if you do the math there, it is a full season, alongside an extension which was at the discretion of the club to renew.”
The figure in question is still not known but Nabi is reported to have been earning €40,000 (around R783,000) per month and would demand full compensation of around R7.8 million if he has been sacked.
Nabi had a challenging stint at Chiefs

However, it is still not clear why he is leaving and the clauses in his contract that spells out his compensation in case the two parties part ways before the end of the deal.
Nabi joined Chiefs in July 2024 after a one-year stint with Moroccan side AS FAR, where he was reportedly on R520,000 per month, and endured a challenging first season, when he managed 33 games, winning 12, drawing eight and losing 13 in all competitions, but won the Nedbank Cup to save himself from the sack and qualify for the Confederation Cup.
He had started the 2025-26 season in fantastic fashion after winning four, drawing one and losing another of their six games, all in the league before news of his departure was confirmed.
