Jose Riveiro breaks silence on his Orlando Pirates future

Jose Riveiro has remained guarded over his future at Orlando Pirates with his contract coming to an end at the conclusion of this season.

Riveiro has been a success since joining Pirates in June 2022, leading the club to three straight MTN8 crowns as well as two Nedbank Cups, and he is currently top of the charts in the league where the Buccaneers have made their best-ever start, winning seven games in a row.

That has seen fans call on the Spanish mentor to extend his stay with the Sea Robbers but he is not giving out anything yet, choosing to focus on the job at hand instead.

“It’s a good question, an important one probably for many people,” Riveiro said on Marawa Sports Worldwide.

“I’ll give you the standard answer, which is – I’m sorry to disappoint you and disappoint your listeners as well – now we are in a very important point of the season, we are in the fifth month, we are not even in the halfway.

“It’s true that my contract is ending in the end of the current one [season] and probably there is going to be a moment where we can sit down and have that conversation, and let’s see what happens after that.”

Riveiro celebrated his 100th match in charge of Pirates this month with victory that took his win percentage to 61, the best by a Pirates coach, having won 61, drawn 20 and lost 19, and is focused on delivering further success rather than discussing his future.

“Right now is a moment to stay together – team and fans to enjoy the moment because we worked so hard to find ourselves in the situation we are in now, which means nothing, it’s just seven games in the league, we are very, very close to start the group stage in the Champions League, we are really motivated for this competition, where we can test ourselves in a very high level,” added the tactician.

“We have to really grab this moment with all our strengths, and we are in the football business, we never know what’s going to happen in the future but like I said there is going to be a moment where going to talk about it and to be honest about it with ourselves and see what’s coming.”
