Roger De Sa explains why Abdeslam Ouaddou will succeed at Orlando Pirates

Former Orlando Pirates coach Roger De Sa has given reasons why he feels new tactician Abdeslam Ouaddou will be a success at the club.

Ouaddou was the man handed the reins to succeed Spanish boss Jose Riveiro, who left at the end of his contract last season, and eventually joined Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

The Moroccan was one of the least expected to take over, amid links to big names such as Pitso Mosimane, Rulani Mokwena and Benni McCarthy, but his short stint at Marumo Gallants seems to have won him the job.

De Sa feels the tactician has everything to make him successful at Pirates thanks to his experience in Africa and South Africa.

“Look, I don’t think they parted ways. I think Jose's contract was up after three years, and it’s very unlikely that Pirates renew a contract,” De Sa told Soccer Laduma.

“It’s always just a period… I remember Ruud Krol winning the double or the treble or whatever, and he still didn’t stay.

“I think, you know, the new coach will probably do a good job. I thought he did a fantastic job at the club that he came to (Marumo Gallants), and I just hope he does the same. He’s got some good African experience, and I think that will help,” added De Sa.

Ouaddou had a successful four-month stay at Gallants as he lifted the club from relegation danger to 10th place in the PSL last season and there is hope that he will do well with a much stronger squad and quality players at Pirates.

The tactician will be under scrutiny in his team’s first match of the season as Pirates host Polokwane City in the MTN8 quarter-final on Saturday.
