Bafana Bafana are in Morocco for the biennial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), hoping to make a statement.
South Africa have been placed in Group B alongside the seven-time champions Egypt as well as COSAFA duo Angola and Zimbabwe. The first assignment for the 1996 champions will be on Monday December 22, against Angola before facing the Pharaohs and later on the Warriors.
Hugo broos’ men qualified without tasting defeat, and after securing bronze in the 2023 edition, Bafana Bafana come into the match placed among the favourite.
Captain Ronwen Williams is happy with what the team has achieved, and is remaining hopeful of a good outing. However, the most important thing is the support the players are receiving from Mzansi.
Williams appreciates the support Bafana Bafana have been accorded
“We’ve been in a good space as a team, we’ve done extremely well. But now it’s a real test, continue support the team, getting behind us, sending all those well wishes,” he told SABC Sport.
“We need all positive and the support now. Yes, there’s been a lot of things going on [regarding bonus issues that has now been settled]. But we want to put that behind us and we want to go there with a clear mind and give our all.

“Definitely [we are enjoying being supported], that’s the difference now, we have the support of the whole nation, the whole country is behind us.
“We feel it, hopefully they can give us that extra motivation in which we need to go a step further,” Williams concluded.
