Ronwen Williams shares what excites him about Bafana Bafana

Bafana Bafana captain Ronwen Williams believes the team is getting better by each step and what they need is more support.

Williams is not part of the national team as they prepare to face Mozambique in a friendly on Tuesday after playing out a goalless draw with Tanzania on Friday due to club commitments.

He is among Mamelodi Sundowns players who were not called up as they are set to feature in the FIFA Club World in the United States but he has an eye on what is happening in camp.

What is Williams’ message to the fans?

The Sundowns players’ absence has opened the door for other players and Williams has issued a rallying call to fans towards Hugo Broos’ team.

“Bafana Bafana all the best to the team on Tuesday, let’s get behind the team once again, support the team, we are on an upward trajectory,” Williams said as Sundowns departed for the United States on Sunday.

“It is a new team, let’s support them, get behind them and we just keep going as South Africans.”

Broos is hoping to see some improvements from his team in their next match after failing to breach Tanzania with a new set of players set to get the nod in the starting XI.

It is part of the Bafana Bafana coach’s efforts to test a wide range of players ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September when they hope to get closer to sealing a ticket to next year’s tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

South Africa enjoy a five-point lead at the top of their qualifying group and two more wins from their remaining four matches will put them in good stead.

There is also the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco in December, hence the need to test a large pool of players.
