SA youngster nears dream move to English Championship’s QPR

English Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers FC is close to securing the services of promising Stellenbosch FCdefender Tylon Smith, aged 20, according to iDiski Times.

Smith burst onto the international scene with an outstanding showing at the U20 AFCON, where his stellar contributions were pivotal in Amajita winning their inaugural title, earning him the coveted Player of the Tournament accolade.

His impressive form has now translated into a major European transfer opportunity. This publication can exclusively reveal that Stellenbosch and QPR have agreed to terms for an undisclosed fee, setting the stage for the highly anticipated move.

The next step involves Smith agreeing to personal terms with the Championship side, a hurdle that is not anticipated to pose any significant issues.

SMITH TO UNDERGO MEDICALS AT QPR

Upon successful completion of these terms, the young defender is expected to fly to the United Kingdom to undergo his medicals, finalizing his transfer.

Interestingly, despite signing his first-team contract with Stellies at the start of last season, Smith has yet to make a senior appearance, having gained experience primarily in the DStv Diski Challenge

QPR's acquisition of Smith comes as they look to address their defensive vulnerabilities, after conceding 63 goals en route to a 15th-place finish last season, with hopes that his talent can provide a much-needed boost.

He’s one of the few Stellenbosch players who have attracted interest overseas with the likes of Thabo Moloisane having garnered attention from the unnamed MLS clubs.

Meanwhile, the club’s DDC team goalkeeper David Passman will also jet out to the USA in August after securing a “student athlete” scholarship in an institution yet to be revealed.
