Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has expressed his frustration at their inability to get a victory against Stellenbosch FC on Sunday.
Stellies handed the Buccaneers their first league defeat of the season following a 1-0 victory at the Orlando Stadium thanks to Devin Titus’ first half strike.
Steve Barker’s men outwitted and frustrated Pirates, who found it tough to break them down, and killed them off with the only chance they found on the break to the disappointment of Sibisi.
Pirates frustrated with a low block
“Very disappointing result losing against Stellenbosch once again at home. I think they only got one chance and they took it,” said Sibisi.
“They had a low block which is very difficult to break down but we move. This team has character, the boys showed a lot of character today, even when we conceded we didn’t keep our heads down.
“We kept pushing for an equaliser, unfortunately, it wasn’t to be but if we could have played another 90 minutes, we would have gotten the result. Credit to Stellenbosch they came with a game plan and it went in their favour.”
Sibisi sings praises for Bucs fans
The defender also reserved praise for Pirates’ fans for standing with the team even when it was clear that they were set to lose.
“Our fans, we would love to say sorry for the result, it was a beautiful Sunday to come and watch football. They came in numbers to support and you know even when we lose, they sing their hearts out. Hard luck to them and hopefully, we will make it next time,” he added.
Sibisi and his team-mates will hope to bounce back next weekend when Pirates host Egyptian giants and holders Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League on Saturday December 7.
