Sirino to punish former team Sundowns? ‘Gaston will come back this season’

Kaizer Chiefs host the defending Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday night at the FNB Stadium.

It is promising to be an entertaining fixture owing to the quality of football shown by either side in the ongoing 2025/26 season. Masandawana have so far played six games across all competitions, winning three and drawing as many, in regulation time.

However, on Saturday, they were eliminated from the MTN8 after falling in the semi-final to the holder Orlando Pirates in the shootout following a 2-2 aggregate score in the two legs.

Amakhosi have defied the odds to win their opening three PSL matches so far to top the standings. However, they haven't beaten the Brazilians in the league since April 2021; but they triumphed 2-1 en route to winning the Nedbank Cup last season.

Sirino to be a factor on Wednesday?

The Glamour Boys assistant coach Ben Youssef has lauded former Sundowns winger Gaston Sirino ahead of the crunch match. He believes the South American will be a factor for Amakhosi with his quality performances.

The 34-year-old has featured in the three games, starting one and playing two from the bench, but has a goal to his name.

“I think Sirino will come back this season. He came back this season with a very good attitude, a very good performance. We also discussed with him a bit about his ideas and what he thinks about the season. He is so excited for the season, he wants to perform, to help the team,” the tactician stated.

Ben Youssef has been in charge of the team in the absence of head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who travelled home to attend to a family emergency. However, he is now back with the squad.
