Stellenbosch FC announce signing of former Mamelodi Sundowns defender

Stellenbosch FC have announced the signing of former Mamelodi Sundowns defender who has become the club’s fourth arrival this transfer window.

Stellies have already welcomed Sanele Barns, Omega Mdaka and Lehlohonolo Mojela who have all made their debuts.

Meanwhile, they also welcomed back Ibraheem Jabaar who was on loan last season at M.Petah Tikva. 

The Western Cape side has now unveiled Brian Onyango who departed Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the previous season having spent four campaigns with the Tshwane giants.

He signed for Sundowns in 2020 as a free agent after leaving Maritzburg United in 2019. He featured in 61 matches in all competitions and scored two goals in the process during his stint with the Brazilians.

“Stellenbosch Football Club is pleased to announce that the Club has acquired the services of Kenyan international defender, Brian Onyango, on a free transfer.

“The 30-year-old arrives with a wealth of experience to his name and boasts a track record of over 200 career appearances in South African football across previous spells with Mamelodi Sundowns, Maritzburg United, and Santos.

‘Brian is a player who has enjoyed great success during his career and we are looking forward to adding his experience and winning mentality to our squad,’ Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie said.

‘He has been brought in to bolster our defensive line and we have no doubt that he will make a valuable contribution towards both our domestic and continental ambitions.’

“Onyango becomes the first Kenyan player to represent Stellenbosch FC and will wear the No. 2 jersey this season.”
