‘Sundowns destroying Maseko!’ Winger’s sorry state revealed as club allegedly block move

Bafana Bafana international Thapelo Maseko is reportedly in limbo as Mamelodi Sundowns have allegedly blocked his move to some top teams that have shown interest in his services.

The winger spent last season on loan at AEL Limassol in Cyprus after failing to secure regular football at Masandawana.

He shone with South Africa in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the national team reached the Round of 32 before falling to co-hosts Canada. Nevertheless, the Brazilians were reportedly not keen on having him for the 2026/27 season and were open to letting him leave.

Despite getting offers, rumours in Mzansi indicate that Masandawana are frustrating the 22-year-old.

Sundowns blocking Maseko deal?

“They don’t want to release him around the PSL. There are offers from abroad, but they are not responding to them. There are offers from abroad, but they are not responding to them,” Sowetan reported.

“They are destroying this boy. There is an offer they received today [Wednesday] from Denmark; they have been sending offers for two weeks now, [but Sundowns] just look at it.

“The boy is training alone; they have sidelined him, and his family has to interfere in this situation, but Sundowns are still not abiding. He was supposed to fly today to Denmark to be able to register for the Champions League, but they have been playing hide and seek, and when asked if they have a plan for him, they don’t have it. They left him here during preseason.

“He is no longer in their [WhatsApp] group. Al Ahly made a bid, and they rejected it, while Pyramids also made a bid which was rejected too,” they concluded.
