Teboho Mokoena’s agent comments on Al Ahly links as Sundowns close in on ex-Chiefs defender

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena has been reported to be on the radar of Egyptian giants Al Ahly following his impressive show at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mokoena was among the Bafana Bafana players who had a good tournament in Morocco as Hugo Broos’ men reached the Round of 16 before getting eliminated by Cameroon.

That, plus his performances for Sundowns, look to have attracted the interest of the Cairo Red Devils who are reported to be considering him as a replacement for Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng whose future is uncertain as he enters the final months of his contract.

What has Mokoena’s agent said?

Dieng is yet to make commitments on whether he will extend his stay at Al Ahly and that has seen the club look at alternatives with Mokoena’s name featuring prominently.

However, the midfielder’s agent has played down the rumours, insisting his client’s future is still at Chloorkop.

“We have not received any contact whatsoever from Al Ahly regarding signing Mokoena,” Mokoena’s agent Glyn Binkin told Newzroom. “Mokoena is still under contract with Mamelodi Sundowns, having renewed his contract last year,” he added regarding the midfielder, who has a contract with Sundowns until 2029.

Ex-Chiefs defender ‘headed’ to Sundowns

Meanwhile, Sundowns are reported to be close to signing TS Galaxy defender Khulumani Ndamane who has been on their radar since the off-season.

According to SoccerBeat, Ndamane has already said his goodbyes at TS Galaxy and will soon be unveiled as a Sundowns player after months of speculation.

The Kaizer Chiefs youth product could be the second January signing for Sundowns who are reported to have agreed a deal worth a staggering R65 million for Colombian striker Brayan Leon.
