Thembinkosi Lorch: Wydad learn price for on-loan Sundowns star

Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly put a big price tag on midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch, who is currently on loan, at Moroccan side Wydad Athletics Club.

Lorch joined Wydad on loan from Sundowns during the midseason transfer window and has so far made just two substitute appearances for the Moroccan giants.

However, according to Moroccan outlet Le360 Sport, Wydad are convinced that he is good enough to be handed a permanent deal and have inquired over how much it would cost to sign Lorch.

How much will it cost to buy Lorch?

The outlet reports that Sundowns have set an asking price of $500,000 (Ksh9.1 million) for Lorch which Wydad find a bit excessive.

Wydad will have to engage Sundowns at the end of the season if they want to sign Lorch permanently and there is hope that the PSL giants will reduce the price as the player is already surplus to requirements at the club.

Lorch was signed by Wydad at the recommendation of coach Rulani Mokwena, who had lured him to Sundowns from Orlando Pirates in January 2024, when he was still coach of the PSL champions.

The attacker, however, found it tough at Chloorkop, falling down the pecking order, with his game time significantly reduced and following his frustrating spell, he asked to leave in January. Kaizer Chiefs were heavily linked before Wydad snapped him up.

Wydad have gone through an inconsistent season under Mokwena with his spell dividing opinion among fans although there seems to be a realisation among the club hierarchy that most of the problems are not of his own making.

After starting 2025 on a high by winning their first five league matches, they have drawn the last three, which have seen them miss an opportunity to firm up second place as they are now third on the log with 42 points from 24 matches, same as AS Rabat, while FUS Rabat are two points adrift.

Second place will guarantee Champions League football next season and only runway leaders RS Berkane, who enjoy a 17-point lead, are assured continental football in 2025-26.
