‘They won’t get it’ – Ex-Chiefs star on why Amakhosi have no chance against Zamalek

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye does not think his ex-club will make it to the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final despite being top of the group.

Chiefs beat Egyptian side Al Masry 2-1 on Sunday to move to the summit of Group D with 10 points but missed a chance to make it to the quarters directly as they needed to score one more goal.

Now, they head to Ismailia to take on Zamalek on Saturday needing a draw to top the group with their next opponents second with eight points and Al Masry with seven.

A defeat, coupled with a win for Al Masry over ZESCO United, could spell doom for Chiefs despite their hard work so far and Khanye feels that is exactly how it is going to turn out this weekend.

Are Chiefs already doomed?

“For me it’s going to be difficult,” Khanye told iDiski TV on the chances of Chiefs making it to the quarter-final.

“Kaizer Chiefs will go there for a draw, it’s going to be difficult, they won’t get it. Zamalek are going to win at home.

“I know Chiefs have two extra goal advantage and ZESCO won’t hurt Al Masry in Egypt. Al Masry and Zamalek are going to the quarter-finals. Al Masry must score two goals,” he further claimed.

The former Chiefs star further feels the hostile environment in Egypt will play against the Glamour Boys while ZESCO, who shocked Zamalek on Sunday, will be easy pickings for Al Masry.

“I wasn’t convinced by Kaizer Chiefs today [Sunday], but we congratulate them for winning. And going away is going to be difficult, I’m talking about the treatment, and they will be playing against the referee,” he added.

“ZESCO has nothing to lose, so ask yourself with ZESCO going to Al Masry a very good side what will happen.”

Zamalek have already disrupted Chiefs’ preparations for the match after changing the fixture date from Sunday, February 15, 2026 to Saturday, February 14 and moved the game from Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo to the Suez Canal Authority Stadium in Ismailia.
