Top 5 things Orlando Pirates need to do in 2025 to win title

Published on by Nkosiyabuya Sithole

Orlando Pirates are aiming to dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns as Betway Premiership champions this season, a feat they haven't achieved since the 2011/12 campaign.

To achieve this, Afrik-Foot outlines five key factors for the Buccaneers' success:

FIVE THINGS PIRATES MUST DO TO WIN LEAGUE TITLE

1. Conquer the Sundowns Battles:

The league title race likely hinges on the two clashes between Pirates and Sundowns.

The first encounter at Loftus Versfeld on February 8th will be crucial, followed by the return leg at Orlando Stadium on March 15th. These matches will likely determine the league champions.

2. Maintain Squad Consistency:

In previous seasons, frequent squad rotations hampered Pirates' consistency. This season, Riveiro has largely maintained a stable starting lineup, a key factor in their improved performance.

3. Strategic January Reinforcement:

With a demanding schedule that includes the Betway Premiership, Nedbank Cup, and CAF Champions League, squad depth will be crucial in the second half of the season.

The January transfer window presents a crucial opportunity to strategically strengthen the squad and ensure the team remains competitive throughout the demanding fixture list.

4. Foster Continued Unity:

The harmonious atmosphere within the Pirates dressing room has been instrumental in their success.

Last season, there was a bit of trouble in locker room because of the reported Thembinkosi Lorch’s dispute with other teammates including Deon Hotto.

However, after his departure, nothing major has been an issue in their dressing room.

5. Prioritize League and CAF Champions League:

Unlike Sundowns, Riveiro’s Pirates are new in Champions League. Chances aren’t high for them to win the Champions League but they are strong contenders for the Betway Premiership.

Perhaps, to avoid too much burden, they need to offload Nedbank Cup and put the other two major trophies ahead.
