Watch shocking Ashley du Preez’s miss! Was the striker really ‘UNLUCKY’?

Kaizer Chiefs played to a goalless draw with AS Simba of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup's second preliminary round.

In that particular game, Khanyisa Mayo was denied by the crossbar after beating the goalkeeper, with his teammates also lacking composure in front of the goal. The hosts looked lost at some point as the Soweto giants contained them.

However, it was Ashley du Preez who missed the biggest chance of the match after failing to tap the ball into an empty net in the second half. It could have won Amakhosi the game since Simba did not give them much threat.

Co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef was quick to defend his players despite the many chances they missed.

“Really, in this kind of pitch, you can’t play. So for that, we was only playing long ball like them, because it’s difficult to manage with this kind of pitch. I think the plan of the game. It was how we can manage the first 45 minutes, first we don’t concede, then we know that the opponent team, they will take a lot of risk,” he told the media.

“They will try to press higher. They will leave us a lot of space. Then we will introduce our [Mduduzi] Shabalala, Ashley [Du Preez] and [Wandile] Duba to give us the speed and the solution in the deep.

“I think a good combination between Shabalala, [Mfundo] Vilakazi and then Shabalala give for Ashley. He was unlucky. Even it was an empty goal, he was unlucky. The ball was out. But the plan of the game, I think we succeeded in the plan of the game, how we managed the first 45 minutes, and we know that in the second half we will find a lot of space,” he concluded.

Du Preez has a chance to redeem himself!

On Wednesday, Kaizer Chiefs play Siwelele at the FNB Stadium in the Premier Soccer League outing.

The last time Amakhosi won in the PSL was way back in August which explains the pressure they have. Du Preez might get a few minutes to make things right, and the best way will be by putting his name on the scoresheet.
