Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has shared his verdict on the club’s new signing Gilberto.
The 23-year-old joined the Buccaneers in the off season from the Angolan giants Petro de Luanda.
He seems to have hit the ground running having even rattled the back of the net during the pre-season friendly against Granada CF in Spain two weeks ago.
Riveiro has described Gilberto as an open person, saying he has settled well within the group. He highlighted the Angolan’s ability to capture everyone’s attention and praised his impeccable behavior.
JOSE RIVEIRO GIVES HIS THOUGHTS ON NEW MAN GILBERTO
“I can tell you that he settled very well in the group; he’s a very open guy, and our group, in that sense, is very special,” said Riveiro.
“We have a lot of young players that have common things with Gilberto.
“We are all trying to help him, first of all, express himself on the field and try to get the best of his capacity. But at the same time, help him to feel comfortable and that’s something we are doing very well in my opinion.
“I don’t know what word to use for his personality but he had the capacity to attract his teammates to get their attention from the first day.
“He’s a humble guy; there’s zero complaints about his behaviour in these three to four weeks that he’s been around.”
Gilberto is expected to be a major boost for the Buccaneers next season with the side aiming to go for the Betway Premiership having dominated in cup competitions in the past two seasons.
In his stint with Petro, Gilberto scored seven goals, registering seven assists in 35 appearances he accumulated.
He’s in line to make his PSL debut in the Sea Robbers colours when they take on SuperSport United in the MTN8 quarterfinal on Saturday, 3 August at 6 pm.
