Where was record-chasing Shalulile in Sundowns’ win over Chippa? Cardoso responds

Peter Shalulile was not part of the Mamelodi Sundowns squad that beat Chippa United 3-0 in the Premier Soccer League game played in the midweek assignment staged at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The Namibia international has been doing well for Masandawana, scoring 128 goals since he joined the club. He is just a goal shy of equalling Kaizer Chiefs legend Siyabonga Nomvethe's record of 129 goals in the Premier Soccer League competitions. But this season, he has struggled to score, finding the back of the net 11 times in 44 outings across all competitions.

Coach Miguel Cardoso has now explained why the 31-year-old missed the game against the Chilli Boys. He has shared the latest on his star striker ahead of the league outing this weekend against Stellenbosch at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.

Shalulile will be 100% available

“There’s no issue with Peter, he had a small, small [injury] that affected him in terms of his capacity to play but I believe Peter will be very quickly back in the team or at least with us in the group, if not already in the next match,” he opened up when asked about the forward.

“If not in the next one, then for sure in the following one, Peter will be 100% available, you saw him now on the pitch.

“He was dancing and jumping, but also he jumped and danced in the locker room in Cairo and maybe that didn’t help him in the moment. But he had such adrenaline, maybe he didn’t feel the pain. It was a small thing, very, very small, Peter is back.”

Sundowns are remaining with matches against Stellies, Magesi Chippa to concluded the season.
