Defending Premier Soccer League champions Mamelodi Sundowns recently acquired the services of Colombian striker Brayan Leon.
In 2025, the 25-year-old striker managed seven assists and 13 goals in the Colombian Primera A matches in the 40 games he played for Indipendiente Medellin.
A year before, he had managed three assists and six goals in the Copa Sudamericana’s 10 games he featured (an equavalent to the CAF Confederation Cup) as his team reached the quarter finals.
This explains why Masandawana dug deep to get the services of the striker to, seemingly, replace Peter Shalulile who has been struggling for consistency. Reports have it that the Brazilians paid R58 million for the services of the South American who is a potential replacement of Lucas Ribeiro.
Why Leon accepted to join Masandawana
The forward is convinced he will win titles with the Miguel Cardoso-led team who are hoping to win their ninth Premier Soccer League crown in a row, as well as the Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League.
“A huge thank you to Independiente Medellin for opening the doors to this beautiful institution and helping me grow on this path,” Leon opened up to the public.
“To all those good people I met here, I’m grateful for the good and the not-so-good that happened. I wish them the best always.

“I chose Sundowns because of the new challenges, and I think this is the best team, the most successful,” he added.
“It’s always great to have these new challenges and to be a champion here. I really hope to return the favour. I already mentioned that Sundowns are the most successful team.
“That’s what I’m here for, to in, to reap titles and to make it even bigger than it already is. I’m proud to be yellow,” the striker concluded.
