Ademola Lookman: Outrageous 10-year contract reopens Barcelona door

Recent happenings have rekindled the prospect of Ademola Lookman joining Barcelona.

The 27-year-old has been on the radar of a number of clubs, with the Catalan giants numbered among those interested in the Atalanta forward. Following a successful stint with the Bergamo side, it is widely expected that he will depart the club this summer.

However, Barcelona’s widely reported interest in Athletic Club winger Nico Williams made the prospect of a move to Camp Nou unlikely. Until now.

Will Barca turn to Ademola Lookman after Nico Williams blow?

Athletic Club, on Friday morning, announced that Williams has penned a 10-year contract extension, taking him up to 2035 and increasing his release clause by 50%, from €60 million to €90 million.

This news comes as a blow to Barcelona, who believed a deal was a foregone conclusion pending registration and agreement with the Bilbao side on a payment structure. It was also understood that the Spain international favoured a move to Camp Nou above all else, including an approach from Premier League side Arsenal.

This opens the door for a return to the table for Lookman who, along with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashord, is considered to be next in line on the Barca shortlist.
