The best players in Africa now play for the biggest clubs in the world while excelling at the most glamorous tournaments on the planet.

Getting down the top 10 African football players becomes difficult when the continent’s finest talents wear the colours of Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Galatasaray and many others.

African football boasts some of the world’s finest talents, with stars making their mark in Europe’s biggest leagues and on the international stage.

Victor Osimhen is a name now known in every corner of the globe. Achraf Hakimi’s influence extends beyond Paris Saint-Germain. Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman, Morocco’s Brahim Díaz, Senegal’s Sadio Mané and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah are also among the names making headlines in club and international football.

But who are the top 10 best players in Africa in 2026? Based on their performances, individual quality, achievements and influence for club and country, here is our ranking of ten of the continent’s leading footballers.

Who are the top 10 best players in Africa?

Best players in Africa: 1. Achraf Hakimi (Morocco, Paris Saint-Germain)

Hakimi’s trophy collection and influence at PSG put him at the top of this list. The Moroccan right-back has won league titles in Spain, Italy and France, lifted the Champions League with Real Madrid in 2018 and played a major role in PSG’s historic European triumph in 2025.

He made another significant contribution to PSG’s success in 2026, helping the French club secure a second consecutive Champions League title on May 30. He also scored in the 2025 final against Inter Milan, which PSG won 5-0.

Hakimi’s achievements extend to the international stage. He helped Morocco reach the 2022 World Cup semi-finals, the first African nation to achieve that feat, before the Atlas Lions reached the quarter-finals in 2026. During the tournament, he earned his 100th cap for Morocco.

His ability to influence matches from right-back, contribute goals and assists, and deliver in major finals separates him from many defenders. At 27, the reigning CAF Player of the Year award winner has already built a record that places him among Africa’s most decorated modern players.

Best players in Africa: 2. Victor Osimhen (Nigeria, Galatasaray)

Osimhen’s career has been defined by goals, but his achievements go beyond his scoring record. He helped Napoli win the 2022-23 Serie A title, ending the club’s 33-year wait for another league championship, and finished that campaign with 26 league goals to claim the Golden Boot.

His first season at Galatasaray brought another remarkable return. During the 2024-25 campaign, he scored 37 goals in all competitions, including 26 in the Turkish Super Lig, helping the club win the league and Turkish Cup. He soon became Galatasaray’s highest-scoring foreign player in a single Turkish season.

Osimhen continued his success in 2025-26, helping Galatasaray win another Super Lig title and scoring seven goals in the Champions League.

He reached another milestone in October 2026 when his goal against Lille took his European tally for Galatasaray to 14. He also became the club’s most prolific foreign goalscorer in the Champions League, with eight goals in the competition.

Osimhen remains one of Nigeria’s most important attacking players. His goals and assists fired the Super Eagles to a bronze medal finish at the 2025 AFCON earlier this year.

The continent’s most valuable centre-forward, Osimhen’s combination of domestic titles, individual scoring records and European performances puts him among the best players in Africa.

Best players in Africa: 3. Brahim Díaz (Morocco, Real Madrid)

Díaz enjoyed one of the finest individual tournaments of his career at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, played in Morocco and completed in January 2026.

The Real Madrid forward finished as the tournament’s top scorer with five goals. He scored against Comoros and Mali in the group stage, struck twice against Zambia and continued his run with goals against Tanzania and Cameroon in the knockout rounds. He became the first player to score in five consecutive matches at a single AFCON finals since the tournament adopted its current 24-team format.

Although Morocco lost the disputed final, Díaz’s performances made him one of the tournament’s outstanding players. He also had the distinction of finishing as the leading scorer in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers, giving him a rare double across the qualifying campaign and final tournament.

At club level, he has won the Champions League and Spanish league title with Real Madrid, while previous spells at Manchester City and AC Milan added English and Italian league honours to his collection.

Díaz’s ability to play between the lines, create chances in tight spaces and score from different attacking positions makes him one of Morocco’s most important players. His five-goal AFCON campaign is the clearest individual milestone of his career so far.

Best players in Africa: 4. Sadio Mané (Senegal, Al-Nassr)

Mané’s place among Africa’s greatest footballers rests on an outstanding collection of team and individual honours.

He won the Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool, claimed the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich and became one of the most influential players in Senegal’s rise to continental champions.

His most recent international achievement came at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where Senegal won the title and Mané was named Player of the Tournament. He scored twice and provided three assists across Senegal’s seven matches.

Mané had already written his name into Senegalese football history by scoring the decisive penalty in the 2021 AFCON final against Egypt, securing the country’s first continental title. Winning another AFCON title in 2025 strengthened his standing as one of the greatest footballers ever from his country.

His career has included individual recognition, too. He won the CAF African Player of the Year award in 2019 and 2022.

Now at Al-Nassr, Mané retains his status as one of Africa’s best players despite his advancing age.

Best players in Africa: 5. Ismaël Saibari (Morocco, Bayern Munich)

Saibari took a major step forward in 2026, turning an impressive club season into a breakthrough on the international stage.

Before his move to Bayern Munich, the Moroccan midfielder helped PSV Eindhoven win a third consecutive Eredivisie title in 2025-26. He scored 15 goals and supplied eight assists in 27 league appearances, giving him 23 goal contributions.

His performances earned him the Eredivisie Player of the Year award, voted for by the captains of the league’s 18 clubs.

He then carried that form into the 2026 World Cup, scoring three goals for Morocco as the team reached the quarter-finals. Those consistently excellent displays helped earn him a move to Bayern Munich, where he signed a contract running until 2031.

The combination of a league title, a major individual award and a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs marks a significant year for Saibari.

Semenyo’s rise from a player rejected by several English clubs as a teenager to a Manchester City forward is one of the notable career stories in African football.

He joined City in January 2026 after establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most productive attackers at Bournemouth. His pace, strength and direct running made him a difficult opponent for defenders, while his ability to play across the forward line increased his value.

The Ghanaian attacker enjoyed his best Premier League season for goals in 2025-26, scoring 17 times and providing four assists in 37 games.

Semenyo added silverware to his career in 2026, winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup with Manchester City. Those honours gave him his first major domestic trophies in English football.

The 26-year-old featured for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup where he played four matches as the Black Stars made it past the group stage. It truly has been an unforgettable year for the Sunderland loanee.

Best players in Africa: 7. Mohamed Salah (Egypt)

Salah’s career at Liverpool produced achievements few African players have matched. He won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the FA Cup and two League Cups during his time at Anfield.

He also collected four Premier League Golden Boots and three PFA Players’ Player of the Year awards. In the 2024-25 season, he scored 29 league goals and provided 18 assists as Liverpool won the Premier League title. His 47 goal contributions set a record for a 38-game Premier League season.

Salah reached another landmark during his final Liverpool campaign in 2025-26, becoming the first African player to score 50 goals in the Champions League. He also passed Steven Gerrard’s Premier League assist record for Liverpool before bringing his nine-year spell at the club to an end.

Although his next chapter after Liverpool will shape the final years of his career, his achievements at Anfield have already secured his place among Africa’s greatest players.

Salah joined Trabzonspor after leaving Anfield and has already impressed in Turkey. He has definitely been one of the best African football players to watch in 2026.

Best players in Africa: 8. Yan Diomandé (Côte d’Ivoire, Real Madrid)

Diomandé has made an extraordinary leap in his career, moving from promising young winger to one of the most expensive players in football.

The Ivorian enjoyed a breakthrough season with RB Leipzig in 2025-26, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances.

His performances earned him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award. He finished the campaign with 13 goals and 10 assists across all competitions.

Real Madrid moved to sign the teenager in August 2026, confirming a seven-year contract running until June 2033. The club did not disclose the transfer fee, but reports put the guaranteed amount at €125 million, with add-ons potentially raising it to €140 million. That would make him Real Madrid’s most expensive signing.

At 19, Diomandé has already reached heights that many players take years to approach. His pace, dribbling and ability to create chances from the wing make him an exciting prospect for Côte d’Ivoire.

He still has to prove himself over several seasons at the highest level, but his rise in 2026 has made him one of the most closely watched young players in world football.

Best players in Africa: 9. Ademola Lookman (Nigeria, Atlético Madrid)

Lookman’s career reached a defining moment on May 22, 2024, when he scored a hat-trick in Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final. The result ended Leverkusen’s 51-match unbeaten run and delivered Atalanta their first major European trophy.

The Nigerian forward became only the sixth player to score a hat-trick in a major UEFA men’s club competition final. He was also named in the Europa League’s Team of the Season and later won the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award.

Lookman joined Atlético Madrid in 2026 after three and a half seasons at Atalanta. His new challenge gives him the opportunity to compete regularly at the highest level of Spanish and European football.

In the colours of Nigeria, Lookman enjoyed a fine AFCON 2025, where his goals and playmaking inspired the Super Eagles to a third-place finish.

Best players in Africa: 10. Bryan Mbeumo (Cameroon, Manchester United)

Mbeumo has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most productive African attackers. After impressing at Brentford, he joined Manchester United in July 2025 and made an immediate impact.

He won Manchester United’s Player of the Month award in August and October 2025. In October, he also claimed the Premier League’s Player of the Month award after scoring against Liverpool and netting twice in the following league match.

Mbeumo finished the 2025-26 season with 12 goals in all competitions, level with Benjamin Šeško as Manchester United’s joint-leading scorer. That return was significant in his first campaign at Old Trafford and showed he could carry his Brentford form to a bigger club.

The Cameroon international’s movement, pressing and ability to operate on either flank make him a useful option in attack. His next target will be to improve his scoring numbers and help United compete for major trophies.

While he has yet to match the silverware won by some of the other players on this list, his first season at United has strengthened his position among Africa’s leading forwards.
