Ademola Lookman in race against time for crucial Roma clash

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman is a doubt for Atalanta’s crucial Serie A clash against Roma on Monday due to an inflamed Achilles tendon.

The Nigerian attacker, who was back among the goals last weekend against Monza, missed Friday’s training session and worked individually on Saturday.

His availability for the Roma game remains uncertain, with Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini facing an anxious wait.

Lookman has reportedly been managing the issue for a while, and the decision to rest him was taken as a precaution.

However, his condition will be closely monitored, with Sunday likely to determine whether he can rejoin full training and be in contention for the game.

Atalanta, in third place with 68 points, want to wrap up a Champions League spot and Lookman is central to this quest.

They now face an anxious wait on the winger and will hope he will be available in any capacity against a formidable side like Roma.

The 27-year-old started the season well and despite the well advertised clash with Gasperini during their Champions League game against Club Brugge, he has been able to put that behind him to keep churning out great performances.

After going seven games without a goal, he got one as Atalanta might light-work of Monza in a comprehensive 4-0 win last weekend.

Lookman has scored 14 goals for Atalanta in Serie A, his best offering since joining the club.

In total, he has scored 19 goals and seven assists across all competitions for the former Europa League champions.

He will hope to add to his season's tally against Roma.

However, to do that, he will have to shake off his latest injury concern and get fit for the all important clash.
