The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024) is in full swing, and we're headed towards the end of the group stages. In this article, we'll provide all the information you need to know about each group.
Group A
In an interesting turn of events, Ivory Coast, who are the hosts of this tournament, will need some help to get into the Round of 16. They finished in third place, with three points from a possible nine and a -3 goal difference.
Equatorial Guinea finished at the top of Group A, they are tied on points with Nigeria's Super Eagles, but ahead on goal difference. Meanwhile, Guinea-Bissau have been eliminated from this competition after finishing last with no points.

Group B
Egypt, Ghana, Cape Verde and Mozambique were paired in the same group, and on paper, it looked like two of the most successful teams in the history of this competition would have an easy path to the knockout stages.
That wasn't the case, however, as Cape Verde clinched the top spot with one game left to play. They finished as Group B leaders with seven points, while seven-time AFCON champions Egypt were second after playing three consecutive 2-2 draws.
This wasn't a pleasant AFCON 2024 for four-time champions Ghana, who are third with 2 points. Interestingly, the Black Stars had a two-goal lead at the 90-minute mark in their final group game, but due to some sloppy defending, they conceded two stoppage-time goals, ending their AFCON 2024 campaign.
With 2 points, Mozambique finished at the bottom of the table. There were six total games in Group B, and four of those ended in 2-2 draws.

Group C
Senegal finished at the top of the Group C standings with three wins in as many games. They've scored eight times in those games, conceding just once.
Interestingly, Senegal are the only team to win all their group games in this tournament. The defending champions are followed by five-time champions Cameroon, who amassed four points from three games.
Guinea are third on the table with four points, they've also booked a place in the Round of 16.
Gambia, on the other hand, have been eliminated from this tournament. They are one of two teams that lost three from three in AFCON 2024.

Group D
Angola have seven points from a possible nine. They defeated Burkina Faso in their final group game, claiming the top spot in Group D.
Second-placed Burkina Faso are followed by Mauritania, who clinched a spot in the knockout stages after a shocking victory over 2019 champions Algeria.
Since the Fennec Foxes of Algeria won the Nations Cup title in 2019, they have failed to make it past the group stages, finishing last in back-to-back AFCON tournaments.
