Super Eagles fixtures and results 2024: When do Nigeria play next?

With qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) secured, the Super Eagles took their eye off the ball in defeat to Rwanda at home in the final match of the series . In this article, we will discuss the Super Eagles fixtures you can look forward to next.

As such, the Super Eagles' next assignment will see them resume their quest to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. It will be recalled that the three-time African champions were drawn with Benin and Rwanda, with whom they contested AFCON qualification, as well as South Africa, Zimbabwe and Lesotho.

The Super Eagles have, however, endured a difficult start over their first four matches of the World Cup qualifying series, with three draws and one defeat.

Super Eagles next match

Following the loss to Rwanda in Uyo, the next of the Super Eagles fixtures is a trip to Rwanda.

This match will resume the qualification series for the 2026 World Cup.

Despite taking the lead through a magnificent solo effort from Samuel Chukwueze, the Super Eagles were pegged back by a quick salvo from the visitors, who struck twice in four minutes to turn the tide and secure a famous victory.

Benin 1-1 Nigeria, 14 November

Victor Osimhen's late header rescued a point for Nigeria in challenging circumstances in Abidjan.

Host team Benin, needing a result, were the more threatening side for much of the proceedings, taking the lead via a corner-kick and coming close to adding to their advantage in the pouring rain. Their hopes were, however, dashed as Osimhen rose to glance Moses Simon's cross into the back of the net.

Nigeria were made to work really hard to overcome Libya on home soil in Uyo.

The Super Eagles were comfortably the better side and the protagonists on the day, but were impeded by a resolute North African rearguard action until substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru struck inside the final 10 minutes to secure a much-needed win.

Rwanda 0-0 Nigeria, 10 September

Despite dominating both possession and chances, the most recent of Super Eagles fixtures ended in a disappointing stalemate inside the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

Rwanda goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari was in inspired form, and halted the momentum that Nigeria had built coming in from their trouncing of Benin three days prior.

Nigeria 3-0 Benin, 7 September

In what was billed as a revenge mission. the Super Eagles took Benin apart at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, to kick off their quest for a fourth AFCON title. It marked their first competitive victory since the semifinal of AFCON 2024, and saw interim head coach Austin Eguavoen kick off his fourth spell in charge with a victory.

A brace by 2024 CAF Player of the Year favourite Ademola Lookman sandwiched a well-taken half-volley from reigning CAF POTY Victor Osimhen, springing Nigeria into an early lead in Group D of 2025 AFCON qualifying.

Benin 2-1 Nigeria, 10 June

The Super Eagles squared off against Benin Republic at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Ivory Coast. They had a 13-2-1 win-draw-loss record against the Cheetahs (CHAN included), who had just snapped a 15-match winless streak.

Although Nigeria opened the scoring through Raphael Onyedika, they ultimately suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat, further denting their World Cup qualification hopes.

Nigeria 1-1 South Africa, 7 June

Nigeria resumed their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a mouthwatering clash against South Africa's Bafana Bafana at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

The Super Eagles had to come from behind to salvage a point, after Fisayo Dele-Bashiru cancelled Themba Zwane's 26th-minute opener. With that draw, Nigeria dropped to fifth on the six-team table.

Coming off a well-deserved victory over the Black Stars of Ghana, Nigeria faced the Eagles of Mali, a team they had not lost to since 1975.

In spite of their best efforts however, the Super Eagles suffered a 2-0 loss to the Malians, as El Bilal Toure and Kamory Doumbia's goals were enough to snap Mali's eight-match winless streak against the Super Eagles.

Nigeria 2-1 Ghana, 22 March

The Super Eagles reigned supreme in a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ghana, their first win over the Black Stars in 18 years. Cyriel Dessers opened the scoring, and Ademola Lookman doubled the lead for Nigeria. Jordan Ayew scored a stoppage-time penalty that was only a consolation for the Black Stars.

Nigeria 1-2 Ivory Coast, 11 February

The Super Eagles opened the scoring, and had the lead at the half-time break in the final of AFCON 2024.

However, things didn't turn out too well for José Peseiro's men in the second half, as they conceded twice, losing the Nations Cup title to the tournament's hosts.

Nigeria 1-1 (4-2 Pen) South Africa, 7 February

A penalty from William Troost-Ekong looked to have won it for the Super Eagles, only for South Africa to draw level through a spot-kick of their own late on. Both teams had chances to win hereafter, but ultimately Stanley Nwabali‘s heroics won Nigeria the game.

Nigeria 1-0 Angola, 2 February

Nigeria advanced to the semi-final of AFCON 2024 after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Angola. Ademola Lookman's first-half goal was enough to give the Super Eagles the victory.

Nigeria 2-0 Cameroon, 27 January

Nigeria booked their place in the quarter-finals after a deserved 2-0 win over old rivals Cameroon. Ademola Lookman gave the Eagles the leading up to half-time before the Atalanta winger booked their place in the last eight with his second late on.

Guinea-Bissau 0-1 Nigeria, 22 January

These two teams already met in the qualifiers and were no strangers to each other. The Super Eagles were unable to repeat their fine performance against Ivory Coast, but they did just enough to get the job done, thanks to Opa Sanganté's own goal.

Ivory Coast 0-1 Nigeria, 18 January

Jose Peseiro's side turned their group on its head with a spirited performance against the hosts. William Troost-Ekong scored the game's only goal from the penalty spot in the second half, following a foul on Victor Osimhen.

The Super Eagles, despite being overwhelming favourites, were surprised by Equatorial Guinea in their opening game of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024) after being held to a 1-1 draw.
