Ebenezer Akinsanmiro is set to continue his development in Serie B after completing a loan move from Inter Milan to Sampdoria. The Nigerian midfielder has passed his medical and is expected to be officially unveiled by the Blucerchiati in the coming days.
The 19-year-old joined Inter from Remo Stars in Nigeria last year and made a rapid ascent through the ranks. He caught the eye with impressive performances for the Nerazzurri's Primavera side, scoring six goals and providing two assists in 25 appearances. His talent earned him a senior debut on February 25, 2024, as he was introduced as a substitute for Davide Frattesi in the 76th minute during a 4-0 league triumph against Lecce.
With regular first-team opportunities limited, a loan move was deemed necessary for his progression.
What the deal structure means
Sampdoria have secured the services of the highly-rated Nigerian youngster, with the deal understood to include an option to buy and also counter-buy.
Counter-Buy is a less common clause, but it essentially gives the lending club the right to buy back the player if the borrowing club decides to exercise the option to buy. This protects the lending club's investment in the player and ensures they have a say in the player's future.
Akinsanmiro seals loan move to Sampdoria
Several clubs expressed interest in acquiring Akinsanmiro on loan this summer. Serie A side Lecce, along with Serie B outfits Palermo and Reggiana, were all keen on securing the youngster's services.
However, Sampdoria emerged victorious in the race to sign Akinsanmiro.
The Genoa-based club are aiming for promotion back to Serie A and believe Akinsanmiro can play a key role in their ambitions.
The 2023 Flying Eagles invitee is expected to participate in pre-season training in Jena alongside his teammates as they gear up for the upcoming season.
The move represents a significant step forward for Akinsanmiro, who will be eager to showcase his abilities on a regular basis in competitive league football.
