Akor Adams surpasses career best with goal in Sevilla’s 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano

Super Eagles striker Akor Adams found the net for Sevilla in a frustrating 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, Afrik-Foot reports.

Adams led the line for Los Nervionenses at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán in what promised to be a grueling encounter between two evenly matched sides.

It took the Nigerian forward just 14 minutes to break the deadlock. Adams expertly steered the ball home from close range after latching onto a pinpoint cross from former Chelsea captain César Azpilicueta.

He nearly doubled the lead in the 19th minute after a brilliant individual run, weaving past two Vallecano defenders, but his final effort lacked composure and drifted wide of the post.

Sevilla maintained their advantage until the interval but were pegged back just five minutes into the second half.

Rayo Vallecano’s Pacha leveled the score with a sumptuous first-time strike from the edge of the area after being set up by Fran Pérez. Adams delivered a solid performance before being substituted for Isaac Romero in the 67th minute.

The match ultimately ended in a stalemate, as both sides lacked the clinical final ball required to breach the opposing backline in the closing stages.

The result leaves Sevilla in 14th place in the La Liga standings with 31 points from 27 games, trailing Rayo Vallecano only on goal difference.

Record-Breaker: Akor Adams Hits Career Milestone

Akor Adams’ strike on Sunday was his seventh of the La Liga campaign, further cementing his status as Sevilla’s top scorer this season.

On a personal level, the goal brings his total tally to 10 goal contributions (seven goals and three assists). This represents a career-high for Adams in Europe’s top five leagues, surpassing his previous best of nine contributions (eight goals and one assist) set with Montpellier during the 2023/24 season.

The Super Eagles star has been in scintillating form since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.

While Sevilla currently sits nine points adrift of a UEFA Conference League qualification spot, they will be leaning heavily on Adams’ clinical edge to help them sneak into a continental position before the season concludes.
