Super Eagles playmaker Alex Iwobi has quietly become one of the most decorated Nigerians in Premier League history, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 30-year-old joined Fulham from Everton in September 2023, signing a contract that runs until the summer of 2028, and has since delivered the most productive spell of his top-flight career at Craven Cottage.

Across three Premier League clubs- Arsenal, Everton and Fulham- Iwobi has now made 322 Premier League appearances, scored 35 goals and provided 38 assists.

That decade-long body of work has left him holding a series of Nigerian Premier League records that his career longevity alone will keep extending.

Should he feature for the Cottagers against Crystal Palace today, he’ll become only the 5th player in the history of the Premier League to have racked up 100 appearances for three different teams.

1. Most Premier League appearances by a Nigerian player

The Fulham midfielder is now the record holder for Premier League appearances by a Nigerian player, having broken Shola Ameobi’s long-standing mark of 298 during Fulham’s home defeat to Arsenal in October 2025.

That afternoon at Craven Cottage produced Iwobi’s 299th Premier League appearance and one that carried its own symbolism given it came against the boyhood club at which his professional career began.

His 100 appearances for Arsenal between 2015 and 2019, 123 for Everton between 2019 and 2023, and 99 for Fulham combined to lift him past Ameobi’s tally, and his ongoing role in Alvaro Arbeloa’s Fulham first team means the number now only travels in one direction.

2. First Nigerian to record 30 Premier League goals and 30 Premier League assists

In April 2025, during Fulham’s 3-2 win over then-champions-elect Liverpool at Craven Cottage, Iwobi became the first Nigerian to reach 30 goals and 30 assists in the Premier League, a benchmark that separates all-round attacking midfielders from pure goalscorers or pure creators.

The Liverpool match itself captured why Iwobi had earned the milestone. He scored and then set up another.

The current tally sits at 35 Premier League goals and 38 Premier League assists across his three clubs. No Nigerian in Premier League history has previously reached both 30-goal and 30-assist thresholds in the competition. He’s the only Nigerian to have surpassed the 30-assist milestone.

3. First Nigerian to reach 300 Premier League appearances

The third record is closely tied to the first, but the round number carries its own weight.

The wider African context matters here too. Iwobi joined an exclusive continental group that previously consisted of just four other African players, becoming the fifth African to reach the 300-appearance mark alongside Kolo Touré (353), Mohamed Salah (309), Wilfried Zaha (305) and Jordan Ayew (305).

No Nigerian had previously made it into that group, and Iwobi’s speed to the milestone at 29 gave him the youngest entry of the five at the point of induction.

The Fulham midfielder’s reaction after achieving the feat captured the emotional dimension of the record.

“It’s amazing. It’s a big achievement to lead that, with the likes of Shola Ameobi and even my uncle Jay-Jay Okocha that’s participated in the Premier League,” he said in quotes revealed by Flashscore.

“It’s an honour, but I’m not done yet, I’m going to keep on going and hopefully keep the record going.”

What the three records above already have in common is that they sit permanently in the Premier League’s books regardless of what happens next.

Ameobi’s appearance record fell in October 2025; the first Nigerian to 30 goals and 30 assists is a milestone that cannot be unmade, and being the first Nigerian to 300 Premier League appearances is a number other Nigerians can aspire to reach.
