Super Eagles: 2 reasons Tochukwu Nnadi could benefit from Marseille injury crisis

Published on by

Super Eagles midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi could have an opportunity to earn more playing time at Marseille when the French side return to action this weekend.

Marseille face Troyes in Ligue 1 on Sunday, aiming to record only their second league win of the season as they look to end their poor run of form.

Nnadi will also be targeting a return in that clash after missing the last few weeks of action due to an injury which threatened to derail his campaign.

The Nigerian midfielder has endured a difficult start to life at the club after making two substitute appearances in Ligue 1 before suffering a knee injury towards the end of August. The setback forced him to miss several games and ruled him out of the Super Eagles’ recent matches.

However, Nnadi is now back in contention after recovering from the injury, giving him a chance to get his season back on track.

Marseille, on the other hand, are also dealing with fresh fitness concerns, including an injury to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is expected to miss Sunday’s league meeting with Troyes.

With Marseille looking for solutions in midfield, Nnadi could benefit the most from the club’s current injury situation.

Injury crisis could open the door for Nnadi

Marseille’s current injury crisis could prove beneficial to Nnadi, who is still trying to establish himself in the Marseille team.

The Denmark international has been one of the options available to head coach Bruno Genesio in midfield, and his absence leaves the coach with another decision to make ahead of the trip to Troyes.

Nnadi, who opted against surgery after suffering the injury, is among the players who could benefit from that opening. The Super Eagles midfielder is ready to return to action after several weeks out, including the defeat to PSG in their last outing, and the injury crisis could hand him a more prominent role in the squad this season.

His return to fitness is therefore coming at an important time. If selected, a convincing performance against Troyes could help him move closer to becoming a regular option for the French side.

Super Eagles star could provide perfect option in midfield

Another reason Nnadi could benefit is Marseille’s need to find solutions to their disappointing start to the campaign.

The French side have struggled for consistency, suffering a run of defeats that has increased the pressure on Genesio to improve their performances.

Nnadi could give Marseille another option in the midfield and he will now have the opportunity to show that he can bring something different to the team.

His immediate task is to make the most of any opportunity he receives, whether from the start or off the bench and if he can take advantage of the situation, the Super Eagles midfielder could turn a difficult start to the season into a chance to establish himself in France and strengthen his position in the Marseille squad.

Nnadi’s first taste of action after several weeks could come this weekend against Troyes and he will need to be at his best to convince Genesio to hand him more opportunities with the club.
