Alex Iwobi: Fulham coach Marco Silva shares hopeful update on Super Eagles star

Published on by

Fulham coach Marco Silva has shared a positive injury update on Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi, Afrik-Foot reports.

Iwobi has been one of the most consistent players for coach Silva since his arrival at Craven Cottage.

Unfortunately for him, he sustained an injury last week in their game against Brentford. He had to be taken off in the 43rd minute of action after what seemed to be a hamstring problem.

Subsequent reports suggested that the attacking midfielder, who turns 29 next month, would miss the rest of the campaign, with just over a month of football left to be played this season.

This would have been a big blow for Fulham, given Iwobi’s importance to the side. He has chipped in four goals and three assists in 27 appearances so far.

However, ahead of the Cottagers’ game at home to Aston Villa, coach Silva spoke about the 99-cap Super Eagles star.

Marco Silva’s Update On Alex Iwobi

Fulham take on Aston Villa in their Premier League game week 34 fixture on Saturday. And ahead of the fixture, coach Marco Silva shared a positive update on Alex Iwobi.

He noted that the Super Eagles star’s injury is a big blow to the team. However, he noted that there is a possibility that he will return to action before the end of the season.

”Really bad news to lose a player like Iwobi. Kenny is still out, but back on the grass,” Silva said per Fulham reporter Jack Kelly.

”Kevin is doing individual work but will be out. Difficult to say a time-scale on Alex, but back before the end of the season.”

Iwobi’s injury means that other players in the squad might get more minutes on the pitch. However, it remains to be seen how coach Silva will set up his team moving forward.

Fulham currently sit 12th on the Premier League table, four points behind a UEFA Conference League qualification spot. They will be hoping to have a strong close to the campaign and seal a spot in Europe.

Alex Iwobi’s expected return next month is also a boost for Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle. It means that he will be available for a call-up when Nigeria play Poland and Portugal in June.

Chelle will be happy to have his best legs for those fixtures, as they will be true tests of the team’s quality and the level of work he has done since becoming Super Eagles coach.
