Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi was in exceptional form for his club side Fulham during their 1-0 win in an club friendly against Portuguese side Benfica on Friday night at the Estadio Algarve.

Iwobi scored the only goal of the game and earned the Man of the Match award, showcasing his readiness for the new season.

Benfica dominated the early stages of the first half, frequently testing Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno with a series of attempts.

In the 15th minute, Alex Iwobi demonstrated his intent with a powerful strike that narrowly flew over the bar.

Shortly after, Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz set up Iwobi for a promising run towards the Benfica goal, but the Nigeria international lost his footing just as he was about to shoot, missing a golden opportunity.

Fulham eventually broke the deadlock in the 21st minute. A failed Benfica attack led to a swift counter by Fulham, orchestrated by the tireless Adama Traore and calmly finished off by Iwobi.

Alex Iwobi, for his all-round performance and crucial goal, was rightfully named Man of the Match.

Iwobi's Super Eagles teammate, Calvin Bassey, also started for Fulham and put in a solid defensive performance, contributing to the team's clean sheet.

Looking ahead, Fulham will face Sevilla at the same stadium on Monday night, in what promises to be an exciting match with the potential for four Nigerian players to feature: Iwobi and Bassey for the Cottagers; Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho for the La Liga side.
