Amas Obasogie match-fixing allegations: Super Eagles star breaks silence after suspension

Published on by

Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has responded to his suspension by Singida Black Stars following allegations of match-fixing, Afrik-Foot reports.

News broke on Friday that Obasogie had been handed a three-month suspension while the club investigates his alleged involvement in a match-fixing case.

Prior to this development, the former Bendel Insurance standout had been a mainstay for the Tanzanian side, featuring in eight of their ten matches this season.

This situation places both his club and international career at a critical crossroads. Match-fixing is considered a cardinal offense in football and sports at large; as such, these allegations have already cast a significant shadow over his reputation.

Following the club’s announcement, the Nigerian shot-stopper took to Instagram to assert his innocence.

He clarified that the matches under investigation include a CAF Confederation Cup tie against Flambeau du Centre in October 2025 and a domestic fixture against Namungo FC on February 26, 2026.

Official Statement from Amas Obasogie

On his Instagram page, Obasogie shared the following statement:

”I, Amas Obasogie, write to address the Management, Coaching Staff, Players, Supporters, Members of the Press, and the entire football community regarding the recent allegation of match fixing that resulted in my temporary suspension by Singida Black Stars SC.

Let me state clearly, firmly, and without hesitation: I have never engaged in match-fixing, nor will I ever compromise the integrity of the game. The allegations made against me are false and deeply painful.

I acknowledge that during the CAF Confederation Cup match against Flambeau du Centre, as well as the NBC Premier League fixture against Namungo FC, I made mistakes that led to goals conceded. I accept full responsibility for my performance in those matches. Football is played under varying and sometimes difficult conditions, and on those occasions, factors including a slippery playing surface contributed to unfortunate outcomes. Nevertheless, as a professional goalkeeper, I take ownership of my errors.

However, it is important to distinguish between human error and deliberate misconduct. A mistake on the pitch must not be equated with match manipulation. My career, my name, and my professional integrity are invaluable to me. As a goalkeeper who has always taken pride in discipline and professionalism, I would never betray the badge I wear or the sport that has given me everything.

To the Management of Singida Black Stars SC, my teammates, and our loyal supporters, I sincerely apologize for the disappointment caused by my performances in those matches. I have reflected deeply, learned valuable lessons, and I am fully committed to improving and regaining your confidence.

To members of the Press, whose role in shaping public opinion is significant, I respectfully appeal for fairness and responsible reporting. Allegations of this nature carry serious consequences, and reputations should not be tarnished without clear and credible evidence.

I remain loyal, dedicated, and fully committed to serving Singida Black Stars SC with honour and professionalism.”

While match-fixing investigations are usually exhaustive, clubs usually require substantial evidence before issuing a formal suspension. Interestingly, the statement released by Singida Black Stars on Friday did not disclose specific evidence or findings.

Obasogie now faces the challenge of clearing his name through the investigative process as he hopes to return to the pitch as soon as possible.
